Hey Dave,
Did you clear the additional mouths to fee with catering?? Way to go!
FOH is looking more and more like the Steve Irwins Zoo. I think you guys need to dress in Khaki's like zoo keeper for the next tour. On a side note, you mention that Gnarl's is being mixed on the Digidesign console. Have you had a chance to play with it on the road or have you stayed away from it?
PS> Great shot of the "show" :-) Talk about Pirate's booty........
Jon
Thanks man! My kids love the pics of the tigers
Hey Dave, how did you guys make out with the bad weather in FL? Or were you out by then?
Hope all is well
Jon
We got out in time to miss it. The arctic frost chased us nearly the whole tour.
Hey Dave,
I'm posting this after the last two dates have been played...just wanted to say thanks again for all the inside info. Hope you enjoy a well deserved break until you start again in about 4 weeks. Take care....John
Hi Dave, loving the blog here, As always it's my early morning read before I go to bed. It has helped me with quite a few little niggles every now and again in my hectic tech schedule. The main thing I want / want to know about is will you *PLEASE* make a book from this eventually. Maybe take the first 200 entries or something for book 1. I would buy 4 copies (one for each of my crew) no matter how much it cost :).
Many thanks and keep up the good work

It would be really cool to make a book, I would be in to doing that for a project when tour ends. I wonder if anyone would print it?
Hey Dave,
we all here in Germany love your blog !
It's the best project in the whole internet I think :D
Would it be possible for you to take some pictures of John's pedalboard, where you can see the ajustments and cabels ? I think many people in the JF Fanpages would adore you for that ;)
Greetings from Germany !
Markus - Check out Jan 29th, Orlando Day Off. I think that is what your looking for.
Danny
hey danni,
this photo is good, but you can't identify where the knobs are :D
Super near photos would be great to see how John manages feedback etc.
Hey Dave,
Thanks for your reply. It is interesting what people try and sell you. I have never had a chance to A/B the two. I like the idea of having pre-amps near to the source though. I was just making a recording of a string quartet in a large concert hall a week or so ago. We were having problems with interferance through long cable runs and solved it by putting pre amps next to our microphones, as uposed to 70 or so metres at the other end of a cable run. That is obviously less plausable for a rock show, where you want immediate control of your pre-amps on your analogue board but I think its a cool concept.
At the end of the day, the way I see it, being a sound technician is about making a million tiny decisions which will culminate in the overall sound quality of your work. Some engineers get funny about little things like snakes or phase shift in graphic EQ's, and to me that is fair enough. Sometimes I count myself amoungst those people and sometimes I don't. It is really a matter of opinion as to what you think sounds better... or what will give you the control to create a more cohesive result.
As you say... if a large wooden volume control for your hi-fi makes you happy (at $100) that is good for you... but wheither it gives you a 'warmer' sound... well that much is subjective... as long as it makes you feel warm inside... ha ha
Danny
Yeah, I think next time you have a FOH theme it *NEEDS* to be the Wild Wild West.
Giddy-up.
Hey Dave,
This is Chris, one of your "Tiki Techs" from the Orlando show. I had a great time meeting you and helping set up the booth. Chatting with all you guys was fun and the view from back thre kicked ass.
