Squeak refers to a grating auditory noise typically causing the listener to cringe if presented at sufficient volume. Feedback often causes squeaks that displease the audience and the musicians. Monitor engineers are often responsible for squeaks and it is believed that there is a secret belief by monitor engineers that to squeak during the show is equivalent to them getting in a "solo". Conversely, when a front of house engineer invokes feedback, the sound is more of a howl due to the greater distances involved.

Squeak also is a term lampi's utilize to refer to anyone that works in the sound department. Though it is still unproven, it is believed to be derogatory.
